Ford Motor Co. said Tuesday it is teaming up with the New York Power Authority to help educate consumers as the state prepares for the rollout of electric vehicles.
Ford and the power authority will develop consumer outreach and education programs on electric vehicles, including explaining the charging needs of electric cars and ensuring that the electric grid can support the increasing demand.
Automakers are set to start rolling out electric cars later this year, starting with the all-electric Nissan Leaf and the extended-range Chevrolet Volt.
Ford plans to begin selling an electric version of the Transit Connect commercial van later this year. It will roll out an electric Ford Focus in late 2011.
Shares of Ford rose 17 cents to finish at $13.01.
