BIRMINGHAM, England — Ford of Europe unveiled its 2011 Fiesta RS World Rally Car here at the 2011 Autosport International Racing Car Show, revealing the team’s new livery and updated specifications.
The Fiesta RS WRC will make its motorsports debut next month in Rally Sweden, the opening round of the 2011 FIA World Rally Championship, which is operating under a new cost-driven formula this season.
Abu Dhabi, which has been a team partner since 2007, is the title sponsor, and the team will operate this year as the Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team. Drivers include Mikko Hirvonen, Jari-Matti Latvala and Khalid Al Qassimi.
The full racing version of the Fiesta RS WRC, which is a further refinement of the racecar that was unveiled at last fall’s Paris auto show, has been developed by Ford’s British-based rally partner M-Sport.
The Fiesta RS WRC is based on the Fiesta S2000 racecar that won the 2010 Monte Carlo Rally, and features all-wheel drive and a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine.
